Frequently asked questions
Answers to the questions we hear most often. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.
Which service do I actually need?
It depends on your situation. If you’re behind on lodgements or need your books in order, start with Business Accounting & Tax Compliance or Business Support Services. If you’re already compliant but want a plan for growth, cash flow or an eventual exit, Business Advisory or Tax Advisory is the better starting point. A consultation is the fastest way to work this out.
Do I need to switch accountants entirely, or can I use SMA for one service only?
Either works. Some clients engage us for a single project, such as a structuring review or Xero setup, while others move their full compliance and advisory relationship across. We’ll be upfront if we think a lighter-touch service is a better fit than a full retainer.
How much does it cost?
Fees depend on the scope and complexity of the work, so we don’t quote a flat number here. Ongoing compliance work is billed as a fixed monthly fee, which can include some ad-hoc advice along the way. Advisory projects are scoped and quoted separately. You’ll get a clear proposal before any engagement begins.
Is there a minimum commitment or lock-in contract?
We’ll confirm the specifics of engagement terms with you directly during your consultation.
Do you work with businesses outside Kellyville?
Yes. SMA Business Advisory is based in Kellyville and works with clients across Kellyville, Castle Hill, Baulkham Hills, Norwest and Bella Vista, Rouse Hill, Parramatta and greater Sydney.
Can you help with family group or trust structures, not just individual businesses?
Yes, this is part of Tax Advisory, covering family group structuring, trust and estate planning, and wealth and succession matters. We also handle the ongoing compliance for family groups and trusts, including financial statements, tax returns and lodgements, so it isn’t only advice at the point of a specific event.
Do you handle self-managed super funds or international tax?
No, these are outside our current scope of services.
How do I get started?
Book a consultation through our Contact page, or send an enquiry with a short description of what you need, and we’ll follow up promptly to arrange a time to talk.
